Back in the Saddle

So... I used to take classes in bellydancing. And while I never really considered myself "up there" enough that I could, and should, do any dancing in public, I really enjoyed it. (Part of that negative view could have been because of my weight -- I was about 170 lbs heavier at the time.)

So tonight, 6 weeks of classes begin at my gym, and it's my old, beloved (not saying SHE is old, just that she's who I used to study under) teacher, what luck! Hella yeah I'm going to be there. I even went last night to the dancewear boutique to buy a new leotard, since the last one I bought was from my "heavier" days and is a tad large for me now.

I noticed something when I was trying on said leotard. Why do they have to squish your boobs flat? I mean, seriously! I've got a curvy figure -- I've always been a bit on the "well endowed" side. But in a leotard, I look like any other flat-chested dancer. I don't want to look like a flat-chested ballerina type! I gotta find a leotard that won't squish 'em down...

[PoD] A Room with a View

fog1_011206 :: Uploaded by KathieKathie.

A co-worker called me into his office, and suggested I bring the camera. I did so, not knowing what I'd see. It had been a particularly bad, foggy morning - I've not seen fog so thick in a long time. The shot was taken close to 10am, so things ordinarily would have burned off long before.

I realized the day after that I forgot one of the most basic tricks to eliminating window glare - turn the lights out. I was so caught up in the fog that I forgot. Apparently, I have a lot of work to do to get my mind wrapped back around mechanics again.

I almost decided to not use these photos. But, I'll keep them -- as a reminder, no matter how breath-taking the shot, never forget mechanics.

Vampire... for Governor

I know, I know, it sounds utterly, entirely like something out of an Anita Blake (Laurell K. Hamilton) book, but...

Voting for the Vampire?
Jonathon 'The Impaler' Sharkey isn't the first politician accused of being an evil blood-sucker, but he's probably the first to accuse himself of it. The Situation's Tucker Carlson speaks to a real-life vampire running for Governor of Minnesota.

[View the video on MSN]

The guy even says in the interview, "I'm not a wuss like George Bush." Now THAT is a platform to run on. Oh, and he's a Satanist, to boot.

It just gets better and better...

Some Pig!

Thank God the saying goes 'when pigs can fly' -- not 'when pigs turn green'!

Taiwan breeds fluorescent green pig
Colored swine will advance stem cell studies, researchers say

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan, home to the world’s first transgenic glowing fish, has successfully bred fluorescent green pigs that researchers hope will boost the island’s stem cell research, a professor said on Thursday.

By injecting fluorescent green protein into embryonic pigs, a research team at the island’s leading National Taiwan University managed to breed three male transgenic pigs, said professor Wu Shinn-Chih of the university’s Institute and Department of Animal Science and Technology.

...

I also have to wonder... was there a mistake in translation somewhere? I thought it was supposed to be green EGGS and ham...

Go Forth, and Moon...

Oh thank God. This is good news for us all.

Mooning declared legal in Md.
Man who exposed his buttocks during an argument walks free

WASHINGTON - Acquitting a Germantown man who exposed his buttocks during an argument with a neighbor, a Montgomery County Circuit Court judge ruled yesterday that mooning, while distasteful, is not illegal in Maryland.

"If exposure of half of the buttock constituted indecent exposure, any woman wearing a thong at the beach at Ocean City would be guilty," Judge John W. Debelius III said after the bench trial, reversing the ruling of a District Court judge.

...

The last paragraph of the news item is also noteworthy:

James Maxwell, one of McNealy's attorneys, said yesterday's ruling should "bring comfort to all beachgoers and plumbers" in the state.

Yes, a lot of us are breathing easier now. And I do employ the term 'us' lightly.
